I have played the drums for over 20 years now, performing in a variety of bands, from jazz-fusion to pop covers to backing vocalists at parties. Music has always been a big passion for me,a fantastic source of inspiration.I have played around a little with other instruments as well, such as the saxophone, but drumming/percussion gives me the most pleasure.I feel fortunte in that i am able to make a living out of something which is essentially also my biggest hobby. That said,it does take alot of hard work ie practise, persaverence & patience if you want to continue to live off music & if you wish to stay in the game.Mostly i get booked to play jazz, but i also enjoy many other styles of music eg pop, rock, funk, soul & various forms of latin music.Often,i am required to read music on gigs,so learning to understand & interpret 'drum charts' can be a very useful skill.
Over the years,i have performed at many of Londons top music venues, such as Pizza on the Park, the 100 Club,National Theatre jazz stage,Dover Street Jazz bar,the Spice of Life etc.I've also played at numerous festivals eg Edinburgh Festival & the Isle of Wight Jazz Festival.Though mostly a gigging musician,i also teach the drums, both privately & at two schools in London. It gives me great satisfaction witnessing the joy that music can bring to students, regardless of age or experience.I believe that my job as
a tutor is to try to find ways to inspire & enthuse the student.Every student is ofcousre an individual,so therefore i need to find the method(s) that work for that particular student,as different people react to different methods.
